Review Ventro Pro Ventronic VT01 Turbo

The gigantic name might be a bit daunting at first glance, but behind the somewhat confusing “Ventronic VT01 Turbo” from Ventro Pro hides a very nice pair of roller skates. They try to combine the best of the worlds of modern plastic and classic cloth roller skates. We had a look to see if this works out.

Description

On the surface the VT01 almost look like ice hockey skates. Very solid and straight forward. When it comes to colour, there’s not too much you can say about them – the skates themselves are only offered in pure black. However, almost as if to make up for the lack of colour choice in the skates themselves, you can choose from a whopping 10 different wheel colours. The VT01 are a somewhat  rare combination of features. On the one hand they have a plastic outer shoe, but on the other, they don’t use unwieldy, easily broken buckles that cause constant problems. Instead they use normal laces that allow for very precise adjustments and a great fit. This is a real plus, because the buckles are often one of the biggest weak spots of plastic skates. The soft inner shoe can be easily removed for cleaning etc. They are well cushioned and, in large part because of laces, they have a pretty good fit and they are well suited for people with wider feet.. They are offered in a huge range of sizes – 33 all the way to 46 (EU sizes). You have to be careful when choosing the size though. They are very much on the large side. You might want to take them a size smaller than you would normally choose.

Details

The quality of workmanship and materials is very good. That’s a real stand out when it comes to plastic skates, which are often plagued by problems. The wheel bearings are ABEC-1. Those are the slowest and least precisely made wheel bearings. That’s great for people who are just getting started, but experienced skaters might want some better bearings. The chassis is made of Elastolan and nylon – the axles are metal though.
The overall feeling of the ride is pretty smooth. They offer massive amount of stability, but don’t feel as clunky as other plastic skates.

Summary:

  • Wheel hardness: 83A
  • Wheels size: 62×38 mm
  • Wheel bearings: ABEC-1
